Five Reasons to Pray Every Day

Almighty God desires a relationship with his children, and that relationship is made possible because of prayer.  Prayer in the truest sense is simply having a conversation with God; conversing with the God of the universe about any and all matters.

Prayer is important to God because God has made us free moral agents; He has given us the ability to choose our path moment by moment.  Such information is critical to our understanding because the choices we make are catalysts in God's ability to involve Himself in our lives.

The Bible tells us that God has a plan for our lives.  Jeremiah 29:11 affirms that God's intent for our lives is to bless us, and not to harm us; to give us hope and a good future.  God is able to carry out His perfect plan when we converse with Him and allow Him involvement in our day-to-day affairs, so let's examine five reasons to pray every day.

The first reason to pray could be simply because Almighty God makes the request that we do so, and that we pray often.  The apostle Luke wrote in Luke 18:1 that Christians were always to pray and not to faint.  In other words, Christians were to pray and receive the capacity to stand against the wiles of the devil while receiving God's grace and ability at every turn. 1st Thessalonians 5:17 tells us that we are to "pray without ceasing."  That's pretty clear instruction isn't it?  Don't stop; keep praying.

A second and most unselfish reason is to be found in 1st Timothy 2:1 which says, "that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men."  God is interested in everyone, believer and non-believer alike, and I believe when we all get to Heaven we will have the opportunity to realize how our prayers for others moved God's hand of blessing during a crucial time in their lives. We must remember what the Apostle James said: "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

A third reason for prayer is that prayer enables the Christian to be victorious over one's enemies.  Psalms 18:3 shouts "I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies."  Psalms 55:16 stresses that calling upon the Lord will result in seeing His salvation with respect to being liberated or delivered from the hand of Satan and the powers who come to steal, kill, and destroy.

A fourth reason to pray is found in Psalms 50:15 where Asaph the musician declared "And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me."  Prayer provides Almighty God with the opportunity to bring deliverance into the Christian life!  It's important to note that deliverance has to do with being equipped or made strong, to be armed and invigorated; the deliverance of God has to do with you being rescued, and set free from all the hand of the enemy.

A fifth reason to pray is that prayer causes God to draw near to the Christian.  Psalms 145:18 teaches that, "The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him...."   "Nigh" has to do with God being a neighbor and at hand; it speaks of kinship, and of having a personal relationship.

Begin today to develop a habit to pray every day.  Doing so will bring God's blessing upon your life in surprising fashion. You will begin to experience a deeper love for your Heavenly Father, and you will begin to realize His blessing upon your life in ways you could not imagine.
